The Dysart based charity Furniture Plus has opened a Donation Drop off Station at the Glenrothes Recycling Centre in Partnership with Fife Council and Cireco. The two containers onsite provide an opportunity for members of the public to donate a wide variety of household items that are in good reusable condition, crucially diverting from landfill.

Cireco’s operations officer Sean Scollay said Cireco is excited to work with Furniture Plus on the project.

“This is a great opportunity for us to change the way we recycle and reuse furniture and household items. By diverting this from landfill we can help provide affordable furniture to our local communities, benefitting those in need and the environment.”

Accepting everything from living room and bedroom furniture, working small electrical appliances to bric-a-brac and household items, Furniture Plus hopes that members of the public will use the drop off station when visiting the recycling centre for anything they have that is still in good reusable condition which will help families in Fife to make a house a home. Donations can also be dropped off directly at either of the charity’s stores at Dysart or Dunfermline.

Colin Bruce, General Manager, Furniture Plus said

“We are receiving ever increasing demands for our help. In the past two years we have more than doubled the amount of furniture and goods given away to those suffering from Furniture Poverty. Working with Fife Council and Cireco on this project should enable us to continue supporting as many families in Fife as we can from the kind donations received, as well as contributing to the environmental impact of reducing waste.”

Furniture Plus has two charity stores open to the public serving the communities of Fife, one in Dysart and the other in Dunfermline. The charity’s main aims are to help alleviate poverty in Fife, divert as much as we can from landfill thereby helping the environment and to provide opportunities for employment and volunteering, particularly for those furthest removed from the job market.
